What makes me qualified

Being a graduate translator with a German university degree (Diplom-Übersetzerin) and a legal translator sworn by two German courts (Higher Regional Courts of Schleswig and Hamm), I provide the linguistic knowledge and special know-how required for those legal and economic translation projects where quality is paramount. A solid background in the international maritime business adds commercial skills and down-to-earth experience, and direct personal contact with all of my clients helps me to understand their individual needs – and how to convey their message efficiently. The result: natural, fluent translations that read like an original and bring your message alive!

History of my translation office Ankatrans in Lübeck

Having always been enthusiastic about connecting people through foreign languages, I studied English, French and Russian, along with economics and business administration, at the renowned Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies in Germersheim, Germany. Since I am also a qualified shipping agent, I started my career working for several maritime enterprises in Hamburg, Kiel and Lübeck. Here, I collected loads of experience in practical communication, and working with people from so many countries inspired me soon to provide language-related services on a more advanced level. So I qualified as a language instructor and started teaching English to groups and individuals. At the same time, I got more and more involved in legal translation.

When I became authorized as a legal translator by the Higher Regional Court of Hamm in 2010, I founded the translation agency Ankatrans in North Rhine-Westphalia. But I soon moved office to the Hanseatic city of Lübeck at the Baltic Sea, where I feel much more at home with the coast, the maritime industry and great kayaking waters nearby. Here, my business took off at a quick pace: I started translating and interpreting for courts, authorities and local enterprises on a regular basis, worked on the Board of the Hamburg-based translators’ association ADÜ Nord, joined the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators (BDÜ), launched my Swedish business line, attended some major international translation conferences in Germany and Sweden and founded a round table for professional translators now regularly meeting in Lübeck. Meanwhile, I look back on almost 20 years of experience in providing translation and interpreting services to enterprises, lawyers, private individuals and authorities in Germany and abroad.
